What is cholera?

Vomiting or cholera is an infectious disease of the gastroenteritis caused by a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae. The disease is transmitted to humans through ingestion of food or water containing the bacteria. It has long been believed that the human body is responsible for storing the bacteria that cause the disease. But there is now evidence that the aquatic environment may also be holding back the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.

Cholera may be caused by dehydration, vomiting, or diarrhea. This bacterium is capable of attacking the small intestine and killing it overnight. It is noteworthy that 50 lakh people worldwide are affected by this bacterium. It is spread through unhealthy food and water. Cholera kills 120,000 people worldwide each year.
